Decreased Libido
Decreased libido, also known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), is a well-known form of sexual dysfunction in women. It is also very common! General stress, declining hormones, and other physical and mental issues contribute to less interest in sex.
Each person is unique in their idea of what is “normal” so there is no simple definition of low libido. Some people/couples are not bothered by having less interest in sex so you are likely to be diagnosed with HSDD only if your decreased sex drive causes you to worry or creates interpersonal difficulty. If you are concerned, a licensed medical practitioner can help find the “why” and provide solutions that can bring results.
Depending on the underlying factors, treatments may include stopping or changing medications that may affect sex drive, therapies that may include sex education or counseling, hormone therapy, and in some cases, alternative remedies.
To help increase your sex drive, you can make lifestyle changes like identifying your stressors and reducing them, exercising regularly, adding fun to your sex life, and prioritizing activities to make time for your sex life. Also, be sure to speak to your partner about your thoughts- after all, it takes two to tango!
