Heavy Periods

Many women experience medium to heavy flow so it can be hard to know if yours are abnormally heavy.

Here are some guidelines:

  • You change pads, tampons, or menstrual cups every hour
  • Use multiple sanitary products together, e.g., a tampon and pad
  • Have severe cramps/bleeding that prevent you from completing your daily activities
  • You pass large blood clots
  • Experience fatigue, tiredness, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of anemia

Common causes of heavy periods may include dysfunction of the ovaries, hormonal imbalances, the use of intrauterine devices (IUDs), endometriosis, fibroids, uterine polyps, infections, inherited conditions, or other medical conditions as may be diagnosed by a licensed medical practitioner. There are many effective treatments for heavy periods so if you experience one or more of the above-stated symptoms call our office today for an evaluation.
