What is hypnosis and how can it help me?

People often have a misunderstanding of what hypnosis is. Unlike how stage acts represent hypnosis, it is not magic and you are in complete control- it is actually the ultimate control as you use your mind to achieve your goals. It is a myth that you will do or say something that you do not want to! Simply put, hypnosis is a quiet state of focused attention that is usually (but not always) accompanied by relaxation, allowing people to go inside and access their wisest most evolved self.

It can also be described as the art of securing a patient’s attention and focus then communicating ideas that can be helpful.

Many people have used hypnosis to quit smoking, lose weight, to stop biting their nails or for dental procedures. I used it to help me with memory and concentration during my medical studies! It has so many applications including but not limited to:

  • Habit control
  • Pain management (dental, surgical, chronic pain)

  • Menopausal symptoms (including hot flashes)

  • Infertility

  • Labor and delivery

  • Anxiety

  • Stress management

  • Eating disorders

  • Insomnia

  • Test anxiety

  • Trauma

Think of it like imagination training where you are guided to use your imagination to experience changes in emotions, physical sensations, attitudes and behaviors.
