Well Woman Exams

For lots of women, the only doctor they see is their Ob-Gyn which makes your annual visit even more important! The “well woman exam” is considered to be a preventative care check up where you will get routine screening exams, blood tests, discuss healthy lifestyle choices and learn about risk factors for certain diseases. Depending on your age, the tests required may change, e.g. pap tests and HPV tests for women between the ages of 21-65, breast examinations for women between the ages of 25 to 39, and mammograms for women above 40 years.

Here is what to expect:

  • Questions about your general health
  • Questions about your menstrual period such as frequency, if you have cramps and your blood flow
  • Physical examination including breast and pelvic, basic body function tests, and more comprehensive tests depending on your age and medical history
  • Discussion about your life/work/stress balance
  • Referrals to specialists as needed

The annual exam is often a great opportunity to discuss contraception as well as other concerns including sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain, urinary complaints, and menstrual cycle irregularity. It provides an avenue for women or other people who do not identify as women (who have breasts and or vaginas) to have honest conversations about their bodies and their lives. Dr. Karmel is committed to helping her patients attain “very well health” from adolescence through post-menopause in a welcoming, relaxed environment. Call today for your appointment. 713 520 9580.
